Northport, Michigan, Now and Then

I am in the studio preparing to deliver some new work to Wright Art Gallery in Northport, Michigan, for their summer group show. As well as exhibiting a selection of my abstract pattern fields, three new coffee table sized "pyramid" sculptures will also electrify the gallery.  Presently untitled, I search for the right ones and hope inspiration hits sometime later today. It is always a pleasure to show each year in Wright Art Gallery’s exhibition season. Owner and director, Pier Wright chose my work for the gallery’s grand opening exhibit 13 years ago, and that is still one of my greatest honors. This one-person show featured several different bodies of work, including selections from my “biscuit” pattern fields and Crayon/wax/resin based color fields and small works on paper and canvas. I managed to dig up some images of the show install and the opening night (see below). I am reminded how the gallery interior has changed significantly since then, including the removal of the front raised platform area.

Above the front door rests a beautiful stained glass by friend and local artist Tom Woodruff. He handmade the stained glass piece for the location years before it became Wright Art Gallery.
