Jordan Scott is an award winning Chicago based artist and photographer. He is represented by art galleries nationwide and teaches photography privately and at several art centers in the Chicago area. He received a degree from Indiana University and a Full Certificate from the Chicago Photography Academy.

As well as teaching at several prestigious art centers in the Chicago area, Jordan also offers private and small group photography lessons covering Lightroom Basics, his complete Getting Off Auto workshop and private group photo review/critiques. These are offered on location or at his Chicago studio in the Cornelia Arts Building. Digital Photography for Beginners: Getting Off Auto!
This class is designed for the beginner and will explore the fundamentals of photography and working with a digital camera. By the end of this four or five week course you will have the knowledge and confidence to use all the important camera functions and shooting modes. Subjects that will be covered include: how a digital camera works, important camera settings, file formats, the exposure triangle (aperture, shutter speed and ISO and their relationship), aperture and depth of field, camera modes, white balance, metering modes, auto focus, focus lock, exposure lock, exposure compensation, hand held camera shake, motion blur, composition and much more!
What you need to bring to class: digital camera, memory card, charged battery (extra battery recommended), battery charger, owner’s manual/camera user’s guide if possible (this can be easily downloaded via internet by using camera make and model number), something to take notes with, and a great attitude to learn and have lots of fun! This class is not appropriate for cell phone cameras. A camera with semi-auto and/or manual function is required.
 

Getting Off Auto One Day Boot-Camp Workshop
This one day workshop is designed for the beginner and will explore the fundamentals of photography and working with a digital camera. Digital Photography: The Next Level
Designed for the beginner/intermediate photography student that wants to take their basic skills to the next level, this 5-week course will review and expand on the important fundamentals of photography and the relationships between aperture, ISO and shutter speed. Advanced exposure techniques and important camera functions, such as metering modes and white balance, will also be discussed. Each session will start with a brief lecture followed by hands-on fieldwork. Learning and improving through the development of a personal portfolio with critiques will also be an important part of this class.
This class is not appropriate for cell phone cameras. A camera with semi-auto and/or manual function is required.

Getting the Perfect Exposure
This 1.5 hour workshop is an easy to follow and intuitive mental workflow process for choosing the correct camera mode and settings to achieve the desired outcome of exposure. This mental workflow, based on a simple and quickly mastered binary decision making process, works in any shooting mode (Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, or Manual). The participants will learn how to prioritize decision making and camera settings (Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO) and will gain more confidence and success in their photography. This class is not appropriate for cell phone cameras. A camera with semi-auto and/or manual function is required.


An Introduction to Adobe Lightroom 3 Hour Workshop
This 3-hour workshop will provide a basic introduction to Lightroom. Topics covered will include: catalog set-up, importing and exporting, organizing images and editing using the basic panel. Participants should bring approximately 10-15 images to work with (in jpeg or RAW formats) on a USB flash drive or camera memory card. Please bring a USB flash drive in addition to camera memory card.


The 4-Step Photo Critique
This structured critique session teaches participants a fun and easy to learn approach to viewing their own work and the work of others. The length of this structured critique session depends on the number of participants. This critique session is perfect for local photo clubs and other groups or classes that use photography as significant part of their workflow or program.
