Lone Star

Lone Star is a 24 x 36 meticulous reconstruction of the Texas state flag, composed entirely of canceled U.S. postage stamps. This work blends ideas of Americana with philatelic history, using thousands of stamps arranged by color to mirror the red, white, and blue of the Lone Star Flag. Each stamp carries its own symbolic weight: the red field is formed from the 1932 2¢ Washington Bicentennial issues, honoring the nation's first president; the blue vertical band is composed of the 1973 10¢ Jefferson Memorial stamps, echoing the ideals of democracy and the republic; and the white band and star are constructed from the 1981 20¢ Flag Over Supreme Court stamps, evoking the enduring presence of justice and national unity. Lone Star a striking mosaic of Texas and American history, where each element contributes to a larger story of state and national pride, identity, and heritage.
