"Epiphany"
from Sacred Vortex Series Used U.S. postage stamps, resin, wood cross on canvas 12 x 16 in (30.5 x 41 cm) 2026 This piece is a variation on my original Vortex Series, where geometric stamp patterns become meditative, mandala-like fields. For Epiphany, part of my Sacred Vortex Series, I extended the pattern vertically to form a subtle cross structure. The work is built from hundreds of 1980 U.S. Christmas stamps featuring a stained-glass image of the Madonna and Child, originally issued to commemorate Christmas and the Christian celebration of Epiphany. Like the vortex pieces, the repeating pattern creates a sense of movement, rhythm, and quiet focus. At the same time, the overall structure introduces an additional layer of meaning. The geometry suggests both a mandala and a cross, two visual traditions that invite contemplation and reflection. A small removable wooden cross rests at the center of the piece. It can remain in place, emphasizing the Christian symbolism, or be removed so the work functions purely as an abstract meditative pattern. Comments are closed.
